The Monthly Chapter Luncheon will be held at the KIRO-TV studios in Seattle at noon, Wednesday, October 9.
John Price, retired broadcast engineer and veteran chapter member, will be leading the October Luncheon with a presentation called “The 4th Network, a conversation with Gary Hart.” Gary was often referred to as the 4th Network, in part for his ability to provide the tools to make it possible for the show to go on.
Gary, retired telephone engineer, will be sharing experiences supporting Seattle broadcast operations in the days before the “digital era.” Gary worked for Pacific Northwest Bell (PNWB, predecessor of today’s CenturyLink) installing wired broadcast loops for STL’s and remotes, setting up temporary microwave links for television remotes and equalized radio and video lines for the annual broadcast extravaganza Hydro Races.
The luncheon will be interview style as John talks with Gary about his 44 years with PNWB, W7WWI amateur radio, and experiences with the Navy in Viet Nam.
Chapter members are being asked to submit their advance questions for Gary along with their luncheon RSVP. Please submit your questions by Monday, October 7, for consideration.
