SBE Chapter 16 in Seattle has announced the selection of chapter member Steve Allen for SBE Engineer of the Year for 2023. Steve is a broadcast engineer for Bonneville, Seattle. His responsibilities include 50 kW AM stations KIRO 710 and KTTH 770 on Vashon Island and KIRO FM 97.3. As a long-term resident of Vashon Island, Steve is also a contract engineer for co-located 50 kW AM stations KJR 950 and KGNW 820.
Steve helped create and operate KVSH FM 101.9, an active LP station serving the Vashon Island community. Steve is active as a Vashon Island radio historian and collector of antique broadcast equipment. Vashon Island is home to six 50 kW radio station transmitter facilities serving the Seattle Tacoma metro market.
