The SBE 2025 Annual Chapter 16 picnic was held at the historic KIRO-AM transmitter site on Vashon Island on Saturday, July 21st. Festivities began at noon with hot dogs and hamburgers, with all the traditional picnic accompaniments. Food for the event was provided by our friends at BSW, and cool liquid refreshment was provided courtesy of Hatfield and Dawson Consulting Engineers.
We thank our veteran barbeque specialist, Terry Spring, for keeping the hamburgers and hot dogs hot and ready to eat, and Michael Brooks for spending the week gathering all of the picnic food and supplies.
A brief business meeting was called to order by chapter chairman Brian Walker. Brian presented the Chapter “Engineer of the Year” Award to veteran SBE Member, Dave Ratener.
Several picnic attendees joined the Vashon Island transmitter tour after the main picnic activities, which included Vashon Island’s six 50 kW AM transmitters: KOMO, KIRO, KGNW, KJR, KTTH, and KFNQ, as well as the historic KVI.
