May 2010: Meeting Minutes

SBE Chapter 16 Secretary Report
Minutes of the Executive Board Meeting   Wednesday May 12, 2010.
Present were board members Jim Dalke, Tom McGinley and Terry Spring, and visitor Arthur Willetts.  Clay Freinwald was present via the telephone.  Terry Spring took the meeting minutes.
Chairman Jim Dalke called the meeting to order.  The yearly election was discussed.  We are a month late.  A list of names of possible candidates was compiled.  John Price was appointed to be the nominating committee.
The Waveguide was discussed.  There have been some problems transitioning to the new web site.  Our webmaster, Brian Lowe, is currently out of the country.  He will fix it when he returns.
Harris has bowed out of doing their DTV session at the June meeting.  Don Miller of the Washington State Emergency Management will present a program on the new Sage Endecs that the state is distributing.
The Summer picnic is tentatively scheduled for July 24.  Possibly the history of the sites on the island will be emphasized, rather than a formal tour.
The meeting adjourned.
Minutes of Luncheon Meeting at Wings Café, Boeing Museum of Flight      Thursday May 13, 2010
The meeting was called to order just after 12 noon by Chairman Jim Dalke.  Fourteen SBE members and guest were present.  This was the first meeting at the Wings Café.  Chairman Dalke commented that we would likely be able to use the same venue in September.
After a round of introductions, Jim announced that it was time for elections of new board members.  He announced that Secretary John Price had been appointed as the nominating committee.   Arthur Willetts and Clay Freinwald have agreed to run for the positions of Secretary and Chapter Chairman respectively.
Jim noted that the Chapter web site was still in a state of transition.  He also reminded those in attendance of the picnic scheduled for July 24th.  Location will be the KOMO AM Vashon Island transmitter site.  Also, the June Harris HD presentation has been cancelled.  A CAP presentation by Don Miller of Washington State will instead be the program for June.  Jim also noted that there won’t be an August meeting.  However, September’s meeting will be the Taste of NAB at the Wings Café.
The featured speaker was Robert Fuhr, P.E. of Power Studies.  Robert gave a presentation entitled “Arc Flash, Hazard Assessments, Requirements, Facts and Myth’s”.  Robert discussed electrical safety in the workplace and the consequences of Arc Flash, and its occasional catastrophic effects.
The meeting was adjourned at 1:15PM.
Respectfully submitted,
John Price, Interim Secretary, SBE Chapter 16
